We Heard You Were Wondering…
What is the age limit for Starz theater company?
Starz Theater Company is open to students ages 9 - Senior in High School. High School Seniors must be 18 at the time of their audition. If you have any questions about the age limit, please reach out via the Contact Us form.
Do I need to make a full-Year commitment to Starz Theater Company?
No. Families are welcome to choose any of the events within our annual season. We do ask students to commit wholeheartedly to whatever opportunity they choose (Production, Summit, etc.), but students are not required or pressured to make an annual commitment to perform exclusively at Starz Theater Company.
Students also must be available for all required rehearsal dates. Exceptions for required rehearsal absences due to family, religious (church/youth group) and school will be taken into consideration - however, please understand a scheduling overlap that falls over a required rehearsal date could still impact casting even if it falls under one of those three categories.
All absences for the duration of the show season must be communicated on your audition application.
Are there annual fees or Membership dues to participate in stARZ tHEATER coMPANY?
No. At Starz Theater Company, families make financial investments for the activity they choose to participate in. Investment amounts can be found on the individual pages for Young Performer Summits and the Starz Theater Company branches (All-Starz, Starz Rizing, & Starz). Students will register for events through Turning Pointe’s online family account.
Do I need to be a student at Turning Pointe to audition for a STC Show?
STC is the theater performance division of Turning Pointe Dance (TPD) and its purpose is to provide the students of Turning Pointe with on-stage performance opportunities. STC shows are chosen to further the education and goals of the TPD Musical Theater Program. While being in a class at Turning Pointe is not required in order to audition for a STC Show, there are benefits to being a student at Turning Pointe Dance. Click here to learn more about the TPD Benefit at STC.
Young people who are interested in participating in a STC production, but are not currently enrolled at Turning Pointe, may audition for a show through our limited number of community auditions and will be evaluated based on training and openings within the company.
I am a brand new beginner. Is there a place for me?
YES!! And we are so happy you’re here!! Our first recommendation for a beginner is to enroll in an Acting, Voice or Musical Theater Combo class at Turning Pointe Dance or attend one of our Young Performer Summits. Each of these opportunities builds confidence and offers students the chance to perform on stage in front of an audience in a Showcase or Recital atmosphere. These experiences help build audition readiness for young performers.
The Turning Pointe Dance Musical Theater Program is a multi-level theater education program. The expansive curriculum developed exclusively for Turning Pointe is designed to give all performers at any point in their theater training a place to begin and to grow.
While not required, we do encourage Auditionees for a show to have at least one-year of class training to help ready them for the audition and production experience. Many of our cast members (including our youngest ensemble, All-Starz) typically have 1-2 years of class training prior to auditioning.
MT Classes at Turning Pointe Dance begin at age 4!
Why Should I take a class?
Performing in shows or attending intensives can be incredibly inspiring and provide valuable insights into the performing world, but there is no replacement for the consistent class training that allows students the chance to learn, practice and refine their abilities as they work toward their goals!
Investing in training as a performer is like laying down tracks for a train. Taking the time to build those tracks will help create a steady and strong path forward for students as they develop their skills and nurture their excitement for the performing arts! We strongly encourage each STC performer to be involved in at least one theater, voice or dance class throughout the year in order to support their overall growth as a well-rounded performer.
I want to help backstage - HOW DO I sign up?
Working backstage is the BEST! Our Stage Crew members have so much fun making the magic happen behind the scenes. Stage Crew is a great option for performers taking a break, or family members of performers. For interested students, new to our company, please use the contact us form and we will get you in touch with our stage manager. All stage crew members will have a brief interview as part of the process of joining the crew. There are also opportunities for students interested in makeup, costuming and props.
I Only want to be considered for Starz Rizing or All-Starz. Is that an Option?
Yes. You can make this request on the audition packet. Students wishing to only be placed in Starz Rizing or All-Starz will still need to complete the production audition process and pay the audition fee.
Are there scholarships available?
Yes. Through the Elsie Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund, full or partial tuition scholarships are offered each season to company members. Scholarships are limited and may be requested on the Audition Application during the audition process. Please use the Contact Us form to reach out for more details.
