Getting ready for your audition?
Here are some tips to help you shine:
Auditions are for students ages 9-Senior in High School (High School Seniors must be 18 at time of audition). Limited audition slots are available on a first-come-first-serve basis at our online signups.
We will not accept walk-ins on the day of Auditions. You must sign up on our website. Audition Sign ups will begin two weeks prior to the audition date at 8:00AM, MST.
Plan to arrive to your audition 25-minutes prior to your time slot. This will allow you time to focus, warm-up and complete the necessary audition forms without feeling rushed.
Students will audition in small groups. Auditions will be closed to all except the Creative Team and the auditionees.
Auditions will consist of a 90-second Vocal Audition & a Dance Audition.
Choose a Broadway or Disney song for your audition. No other musical genre (Popular movie musicals such as The Greatest Showman, Sing and La La Land unfortunately are not allowed as they are not created by Disney).
Sing a song in the style of the musical you are auditioning for. Do not choose a song from the show you are auditioning for.
Be sure to choose a song that you can sing with confidence and energy. The more comfortable you are with your song, the more fun you will have with your audition!
All vocal auditions must be performed with a backing track. Students will provide their own backing track and will upload the song prior to audition day. The link to upload your audition song will be included in your confirmation email after registering for auditions. All songs must be uploaded to the STC online location, not played off a personal device.
No costumes or props are allowed as part of your audition.
No Monologues, Sides or Cold Reads will be used as part of the initial Audition process. These will be used as part of the Callback process.
A Jazz Dance Combo will be taught and performed as part of your audition. If you are not an experienced dancer, do not worry!! We want to see your showmanship and ability to entertain your audience through the dance!
Student attire for auditions and callbacks. Students should dress neatly and in a way that feels like “them.” They should not be dressed formally or costumed as a specific character. Please be aware that there will not be time to change between the vocal audition and dance audition. Be sure your outfit will work well for both styles. If wearing a dress, please wear shorts underneath. Bring dance shoes (jazz, character) if you own them.
Learn about the characters within the show ahead of audition day. Click here to read more about the characters in Anastasia.
No member of the STC Admin or Creative Team can participate in the process of helping prepare students for STC auditions via private lessons.
