Fiddler on the rOOF Synopsis, SONGS & Character List
Winner of nine Tony Awards when it debuted in 1964, Fiddler on the Roof is the brainchild of Broadway legends, Jerome Robbins and Harold Prince; songwriters, Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick; and bookwriter, Joseph Stein. Touching audiences worldwide with its humor, warmth and honesty, this universal show is a staple of the musical theatre canon.
Set in the little village of Anatevka, the story centers on Tevye, a poor milkman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill them with traditional values in the face of a changing Russia. Rich in detail, Fiddler on the Roof's universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness.
With iconic and beloved songs such as "Sunrise, Sunset," "If I Were a Rich Man" and "Matchmaker, Matchmaker," Fiddler on the Roof is the perfect mix of audience-pleasing humor and heart.

WHAT TO PREPARE
Your Fiddler on the Roof audition will consist of a 90-second Vocal Audition and a Dance Audition. Students will audition in small groups for both their vocal and dance audition. Auditions will be closed to all except the Creative Team and the auditionees.
Auditions will begin in 30-minute time slots on April 5. As you select your time, please keep in mind, student check-in is 25 minutes prior to the scheduled audition time. Families should plan for a 60-minute time commitment from student check-in to pick up.
All STC performers must be between the ages of 9-18/Senior in High School.
Auditions are by online reservation only starting on March 22 at 8:00am. A link to the online reservations will be posted on this page on March 22. Families will receive a confirmation email at the email address provided in the signup with further instructions for Audition Day. If you do not receive a confirmation within 24 hours, please use the contact us page and let us know.

**VOCAL AUDITION BACKING TRACKS**
All vocal auditions must be performed with a backing track. Students will provide their own backing track and will upload the song prior to audition day. The link to upload your audition song will be included in your confirmation email after registering for auditions. All songs must be uploaded to the STC online location, not played off a personal device.
For this show we will not be having Role-specific auditions (where students choose to audition only for a certain role) - we ask all students who choose to audition for Fiddler on the Roof to be open to accepting any role.
Additional details:
No costumes or props are allowed as part of your audition.
No Monologues, Sides or Cold Reads will be used as part of the initial Audition process. These will be used as part of the Callback process.

No member of the STC Admin or Creative Team can participate in the process of helping prepare students for STC auditions via private lessons.
Do I need to be a Student at Turning Pointe to audition?
STC is the theater performance division of Turning Pointe Dance (TPD) and its purpose is to provide the students of Turning Pointe with on-stage performance opportunities. STC shows are chosen to further the education and goals of the TPD Musical Theater and Dance Programs. While being in a class at Turning Pointe is not required in order to audition for a STC Show, there are benefits to being a student at Turning Pointe Dance. Click here to read more about the TPD Benefit at STC.
Young people who are interested in participating in a STC production, but are not currently enrolled at Turning Pointe, may audition for a show through our limited number of community auditions and will be evaluated based on training and openings within the company. Community spots are limited as our goal in offering show experiences is to expand the theater education of students in the TPD Musical Theater Program.
