ATTENDANCE POLICY

All students auditioning for a STC production must be prepared to wholeheartedly commit to the season. Rehearsal conflicts must be disclosed on the audition application to be considered for an excused absence. Any rehearsal time missed, whether partial or full, counts as an absence. Excessive absences may impact casting decisions and may limit the roles a student is considered for.

  • STARZ performers may have no more than two (2) excused absences without prior approval from the STC Admin Team.

  • STARZ Rizing and All-STARZ performers may have no more than one (1) excused absence without prior approval.

  • SUMMER SEASON ABSENCES: The STC summer season is fast-paced, with 14 rehearsals during the rehearsal season for Starz and 8 rehearsals for Starz Rizing/All-Starz. This schedule requires a commitment from cast members and their families. Once casting is finalized, we ask all cast members and their families to prioritize the rehearsal commitment. Additional absences, including late arrivals or early departures, will only be excused for emergencies or illness. Before auditioning, carefully review any family or personal commitments between June 9 and the show dates and list them on your audition application. All conflicts must be listed, as they directly impact casting and rehearsal scheduling. If a student has a potential absence, it should still be noted as tentative.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Winner of nine Tony Awards when it debuted in 1964, Fiddler on the Roof is the brainchild of Broadway legends, Jerome Robbins and Harold Prince; songwriters, Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick; and bookwriter, Joseph Stein. Touching audiences worldwide with its humor, warmth and honesty, this universal show is a staple of the musical theatre canon.

Set in the small village of Anatevka, Fiddler on the Roof follows Tevye, a devoted father striving to uphold his Jewish traditions while navigating the shifting tides of early 20th-century Russia. As his five daughters challenge customs in pursuit of love and independence, Tevye must balance his faith, family, and the pressures of a changing world. Filled with iconic music, heartfelt storytelling, and timeless themes of tradition and resilience, this beloved classic has captivated audiences since its 1964 debut.

OUR APPROACH TO CASTING

At STC we do not have Role-specific auditions (where students choose to audition only for a certain role). All students auditioning for Fiddler on the Roof must be open to accepting any role, as STC is an educational program dedicated to fostering growth, community and a love for theater in all participants. We believe every role matters and our casting team carefully considers each placement, ensuring that every role has intention, meaning, growth, and purpose within the production. If a student is not willing to accept any role, we ask them to prayerfully consider whether this opportunity aligns with their goals and expectations before auditioning.

Audition Cost:
$15 per Student
$30 max per family
Payment is due at student check-in (cash or check only). Please make checks payable to “Turning Pointe Dance."

TPD Musical Theater students performing in STC’s “Beauty and the Beast” (2022)

Do I need to be a Student at Turning Pointe to audition?

STC is the theater performance division of Turning Pointe Dance (TPD) and its purpose is to provide the students of Turning Pointe with on-stage performance opportunities. STC shows are chosen to further the education and goals of the TPD Musical Theater and Dance Programs. While being in a class at Turning Pointe is not required in order to audition for a STC Show, there are benefits to being a student at Turning Pointe Dance. Click here to read more about the TPD Benefit at STC.

Young people who are interested in participating in a STC production, but are not currently enrolled at Turning Pointe, may audition for a show through our limited number of community auditions and will be evaluated based on training and openings within the company. Community spots are limited as our goal in offering show experiences is to expand the theater education of students in the TPD Musical Theater Program.
